Tips for Document Design

Avoid the following design no-no’s:

• underlining headings or words for emphasis
• more than two typefaces in your manual
• two spaces after a period
• all UPPER CASE headings
• lines longer than about 60 letters
• text smaller than 10 point or larger than 13 point
• reversing text (white text on black background)
• screens that are too dark behind text
• no consistency in layout from page to page
