About Us

Duncan Kent & Associates Ltd. is a technical communications company based in Vancouver, Canada. We help our clients prepare top-quality print and online publications to support their products and services. Our services include manual writing, editing, production, electronic publishing, consulting, and training. We serve all levels of government, software developers, high-tech companies, industry, utilities, educational institutions, banks, and health care organizations.

Over the years, we’ve guided the development of more than 200 manuals and technical publications. We’ve prepared policy and procedure manuals, operations manuals, user guides, online help systems, and Web publications.

Our Staff

Duncan Kent often serves as project manager and senior consultant on projects and guides the development of publications. Duncan holds a Masters of Arts (MA) and is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC). He has worked for more than 20 years as a professional business and technical writer and documentation consultant. Duncan is a founding member and past-president of the Canada West Coast chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (25,000 members worldwide). He also teaches technical writing at Simon Fraser University and offers manual writing workshops across Canada.

Joyce Arthur is our senior technical writer and works closely with clients to prepare technical publications. She plans publications, interviews subject matter experts, prepares drafts, and coordinates technical reviews and testing. She is an expert user of word processing tools, and typically formats and produces the publications she writes. Since 1990, she has written or edited more than 50 manuals for clients across a wide range of industries. Joyce often takes a leading role in developing application help systems and standalone hypertext publications, and has significant experience with both WinHelp and Web publishing.

Michelle Shute is our senior technical editor and specializes in editing and producing print and online publications. Working with a variety of word processing, desktop publishing, and web authoring tools, she designs page and screen layouts, determines the most appropriate methods of presenting information, and edits and produces polished publications. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Simon Fraser University and is a graduate of Print Futures, Douglas College’s two-year professional writing and publication design program. Since joining the firm in 1991, she has edited and produced more than 50 technical manuals, guides, and Web publications for a variety of organizations and industries.
